Samson Cathedral was built in style of the Early Baroque in the 18th century to commemorate the victory over Sweden. This unique construction belongs to the oldest cathedrals in St.Petersburg. Especially noteworthy are three iconostases, which are considered the masterpieces of the 18th century.

 

Museum of Wax Figures presents interesting facts and breath-taking stories of the Russian tsars starting with Ivan the Terrible.

Museum of Vodka acquaints guests with history of this national Russian alcoholic drink accompanied with a glass of vodka. In the special eating-house you can sample vodka with traditional Russian snacks.

 

Open-air museum “ Russian Village Shuvalovka” is located close to Petergof, 20 km from St.Petersburg. You will see typical village wooden structures of the past centuries, listen to a story about traditional Russian crafts and can even make some things yourselves. You can also taste vodka in the vodka theatre and special Russian dishes in the Russian-styled restaurant.

 

Museum of Porcelain was opened in 2003 as the branch of the Hermitage. It is located on the grounds of St.Petersburg Porcelain Manufactory, which dates back to 1744 and was named after the Russian genius Lomonosov in the Soviet time. The most prominent painters and sculptors created the unique style of the Lomonosov Porcelain, which has become part of cultural inheritance of Russia. In the museum visitors can see masterpieces of the porcelain collections of the Russian tsars as well as articles made on the famous porcelain manufactories of West Europe.

 

After the excursion you can visit a special shop where various porcelain things are sold.

 

Works by modern painters done in different techniques are on display in the gallery of modern porcelain art. You can buy original things or order a copy of these unique treasures. 

 

Museum of Porcelain and Manufactory. Visitors can not only admire the porcelain masterpieces but also see how they are produced. You can visit a workshop where porcelain articles are painted. Handwork of the Lomonosov Porcelain Manufactory is known all over the world. The painters of the Petersburg Porcelain Manufactory have been considered the best in Europe since the middle of the 19th century.

 

In the workshop of hand painting you will see painters working with feathers and brushes and engraving agate designs on gold. You will also see how dyes change their hues after kilning and a lot more.

Konstantinovsky Palace belongs to the complex “State Residence - Palace of Congresses” lying 20 km to the north of St.Petersburg. It was one of the tsar residences founded by Peter the Great.  By the 300th  anniversary of St.Petersburg the residence had been totally renovated. Official ceremonies with the participation of the presidents from different countries took place there.

 

Museum “Crosses” is a museum in the functioning prison, where you can have an excursion with facts about the prisoners’ past and present.

 

Museum of Bread acquaints visitors with history of bread production, original old equipment as well as national customs and traditions.

 

Museum of Militia acquaints visitors with history of law-enforcement agencies and presents interesting details of some crimes.

 

Elagin Palace – The former imperial residence lies on the island. The Elagin palace occupies the central place in the wonderful palace-and-park ensemble, created in the early XIX century by the architect C. Rossi. Here can visitors see the unique gala halls.

 

Kronshtadt is the town-fortress founded by Peter the Great as the outer harbor of Petersburg. The town lies on the island Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland and is surrounded by numerous old forts. A beautiful Marine Cathedral in the Byzantine style adorns the central Anchor Square. Kronshtadt is the motherland of the Russian Navy. There you can see the first in the world dry-dock and tide-gauge service started in Peter the Great’s time.

 

A ring road connecting the northern and southern sea shores goes through Kronshtadt. The construction of the ring road is linked with the construction of the dam in the Gulf of Finland to protect the city from floods. Going along the motorway you can see numerous huge old forts on the both sides of the Gulf.

 

Cathedral of Our Lady Kazan is a majestic semicircular colonnade of four rows of Corinthian columns forming a square with statues, flower beds and a fountain. It was built on the model of St.Peter’s in Rome to commemorate the Russian victory over Napoleon.

 

Nevsky Avenue.  A nice walk with your guide showing you main attractions and telling you everything about the avenue, which is made truly beautiful by its unique architectural components.

 

 

Excursion to the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet House, a world famous theatre also known as the Kirov Theatre. The marvelous building was erected in 1860. Here the first Russian operas were staged back in the 18th century before the royal family. Here the first Russian singers and conductors won recognition. You will be able not only admire the beautiful interior decorations but also visit working rooms of the theatre.

 

Submarine “Narodovolets” has been turned into a museum in which you can see original equipment and controls, enjoy the impressive atmosphere of the submarine and get to know details of its history and construction.

 

Central Navy Museum is the biggest in the world. The exhibition is devoted to the history of the Russian Fleet and shipbuilding. The collection contains 800 000 exhibits including ship models, marine subjects, battle flags, medals and decorations.

 

Museum of Outer Space Exploration and Rocket Engineering is situated on the grounds of the Peter and Paul Fortress. In the 1930ies the building of the present museum accommodated the USSR’s first experimental gas-dynamics laboratory where jet propulsion engines were developed. The exhibition presents a panorama of Soviet aerospace engineering from the first rockets to modern spaceships.

 

Museum of Political History houses the exhibition which is devoted to Russian history of the 19th-20th centuries and displays authentic things, documents and photos of that epoch. The museum is located in the palace which used to belong to the famous Russian ballet dancer Matilda Kseshinskaya, who was closely connected with the tsar’s family.

 

Menshikov Palace is the first stone building in St.Petersburg built for the first governor-general of the new capital Prince Alexander Menshikov, who lived in much greater luxury than the Tsar himself. You will see the authentic interior decorations of the 18th century, including the famous Dutch tiles, and will learn about Russian culture of Peter the Great’s time.

 

Museum of Dostoyevsky is located in the last flat of the world famous Russian writer Dostoyevsky. The original interior of the flat has been totally reconstructed. You will acquaint with various documents, photos and personal things.

 

Smolny was first used as an educational institution for young ladies of noble birth. Its historical significance it got in 1917 when it became the headquarters of the Revolution. Smolny housed the Communist Party committees and now is an official residence of the governor of St.Petersburg.

 

Museum “Water World of St.Petersburg” combines traditional and interactive exhibitions. You will learn about the history of water supply and will have a walk along the underground St.Petersburg.
